30-min Trial Lesson

A trial lesson with Yorkshire Helicopters is the perfect way for an aviation enthusiast to experince what it's like to take the controls of a helicopter and learn to fly these incredible machines. As Yorkshire and the North's only commercial training provider, training both private and commercial pilots is our core focus and our expert instructors are ideally suited to informing and inspiring any budding pilot.

🚁A genuine lesson experience:

Our trial lessons are meant to give you a true feel of what it's like to learn to fly helicopters. Our trial lessons cover a combination of some of the early exercises in our approved flight training syllabus, which counts towards the pilot license certification. Just like all our lessons, we'll undertake a full pre-flight briefing and you'll be flying the helicopter yourself with one of our qualified instructors coaching you all the way, with full dual-controls.

🧑🏽‍🎓Let's get learning:

The experience begins with a ground briefing in our custom-built briefing room which includes all the necessary safety points, as well as an 'air experience' and the 'effects of controls' exercies so you'll be ready to take full control of the aircraft and begin to use each control to gain an understanding of how helicopters actually fly. We'll head out to the aircraft and talk through starting the aircraft before heading out for 30 minutes of air exercises. Come prepared with all of your questions about aviation, helicopters and learning to fly with Yorkshire Helicopters and you'll leave with your first training flight logged in your own branded pilot's log book!

🌄Come for the lesson, stay for the view:

As much as the focus of this experience is on the lesson itself, don't forget it's also a 30 minute flight over the incredible Yorkshire countryside with un-restricted panoramic views offered by the R44's massive bubble windows. Take just a minute to marvel at the lush green countryside, the meandering rivers, and the rugged beauty that defines Yorkshire's character as it could one day be the "view from the office"!

💺Bring a friend:

If you don't feel like coming alone, feel free to bring a friend or family member with you. The R44 has four seats, so as well as you and your instructor, there's room in the back for up to two additional passengers that can come along for the experience, or moral support, as well as anyone else that is happy watching from the break room. Weight limits apply.

Rest assured, you're in the hands of commercially trained professionals who prioritize your safety and comfort above all else. Our expert instructors are not only skilled at what they do, but they're also passionate about making your day as memorable as possible.

These early stages are very exciting and also the most important. A proper understanding of the basics forms a solid foundation to build upon when you progress to becoming a fully competent and safe helicopter pilot. Please note: While we do not have a minimum age for our trial flights, the person taking the flight will need to be able to reach all of the controls. This means they'll usually have to be at least 13 years of age, but feel free to contact us for advice.
